Pure Water

Pure Water From Your Kitchen Sink

Zero Electricity • Near-Zero Maintenance • Close to 0 PPM Output

This page contains all the components and resources for building a kitchen sink water purification system that produces water that’s close to 0 PPM — comparable to distilled — with zero electricity and near-zero maintenance. The system combines a high-capacity 3-stage under-counter filter with a reverse osmosis membrane and a deionization cartridge to deliver truly pure water on demand.

This setup blows away anything comparable on maintenance. No constant filter changes. No electricity bill. No heating up your kitchen like a distiller. Just pure water at the turn of a handle.

Core System Components

Stage 1: Vitasalus V-5 Under-Counter Water Filtration System

The foundation of the system. This 3-stage under-counter filter replaces all 3 disposable cartridges found in a standard RO system — sediment, carbon, and polishing — in one sealed unit. Rated for 5,000 gallons but consistently delivers 10,000+ in real-world use. Formerly the Equinox filter system.

Stage 2: 150 GPD Reverse Osmosis Membrane System

The RO membrane removes dissolved solids, heavy metals, chemicals, and bacteria. Water from the V-5 feeds directly into this unit. Waste water exits to the drain; purified water continues to the DI cartridge. Because the V-5 pre-filters so well, the membrane lasts significantly longer than in standard systems.

Stage 3: Deionization (DI) Cartridge — Mixed Bed Resin

The final polish. This DI cartridge with purple color-changing resin strips out any remaining ions the RO membrane let through, bringing the output close to zero TDS. When the purple resin changes color, it’s time to replace — no TDS meter or guesswork needed. Recommended to use after RO membrane only.

Pressurized Water Storage Tank (iSpring T32M)

RO membranes produce water slowly. The pressure tank stores purified water under pressure so it flows instantly from the spigot — just like a normal faucet. Fills automatically while you’re not using it. 100 PSI max working pressure.

Supporting Components

Auto Shut-Off Valve

Automatically stops water flow when the pressure tank is full, preventing waste and overpressure. Essential for any RO system.

Inline PSI Gauge

Monitor your line water pressure. Useful for verifying the system is operating correctly. Push-fit 1/4″ connections.

1/4″ Tubing & Connector Set

Food-grade 1/4″ tubing with push-fit quick-connect fittings, tees, elbows, and shut-off valves. Everything you need to plumb the system together. No special tools required.

RO Flush Kit (350CC) — Optional

Allows you to forward flush the RO membrane to extend its lifespan. Recommended for standard RO systems, but with the V-5 pre-filtration doing such a great job, this is optional. I’ve never needed to use mine.

Going the Extra Mile: Whole-Home Water Treatment

The under-sink system gives you pure drinking water. But you can treat every drop entering your home — before it ever reaches the kitchen. My whole-home flow runs: Magnetizer → Water Meter → Sediment Filter → Vitasalus PureMaster V-700 → UV Sterilizer → the rest of the house. Conditioning and filtering the water at the point of entry reduces scale on every faucet, fixture, and appliance in the home.

Magnetizer — Whole-Home Magnetic Water Conditioner

Conditions the water magnetically before it even reaches the filters, reducing limescale buildup throughout the entire house — every faucet, every appliance, every pipe. This is my own company, so you’re getting it straight from the source.

Magnet Secrets — by Peter Lindemann (for the DIY crowd)

Want to understand how and why magnetic water conditioning actually works — and build your own? This is the resource. Peter Lindemann lays out the science and the practical know-how behind magnetic treatment of water.

Vitasalus PureMaster V-700 — Whole-House Filter

Whole-house filtration that removes chlorine, chemicals, and metals before the water reaches any tap in your home. This is the whole-home counterpart to the under-counter V-5. Available direct from Vitasalus / Equinox.

HQUA UV Water Sterilizer

The final whole-home polish. Ultraviolet sterilization kills bacteria, viruses, Giardia, and Cryptosporidium — with no chemicals added to your water.

Essential: Bioavailable Minerals

⚠ Important: If you drink pure water, you must supplement with bioavailable minerals. The inorganic minerals in tap water (calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide) are essentially dissolved rocks — your body can’t use them. But you still need minerals. Use plant-derived, bioavailable supplements — NOT sodium-based liquid ionic minerals from sea water. If you think those are healthy, monitor your urine conductivity with a Siemens/Mohs meter and you’ll see something concerning.

Algazim — Organic Norwegian Kelp Minerals

Plant-derived bioavailable minerals from organic Norwegian kelp. 250 vegetarian capsules. Your body can actually absorb and use these minerals, unlike the inorganic minerals found in tap water.

Min-Col Forté — Colloidal Plant Minerals

Plant-derived colloidal mineral supplement. Non-sodium, non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free. 250 capsules. A comprehensive mineral supplement designed for bioavailability.

Testing Equipment

Don’t take purity on faith — measure it. These meters let you confirm the difference between your tap water and the purified output for yourself: PPM/TDS, conductivity (Siemens/Mohs), pH, and ORP.

Apera TDS / PPM Meter

A dedicated total-dissolved-solids meter that reads purity in parts per million. Use it side by side on tap water vs. the purified spigot — the difference is dramatic.

Hanna Combo Meter — Conductivity & TDS

This Hanna meter reads both conductivity (Siemens/Mohs) and TDS/PPM in a single device — so if you get this one, you don’t also need the Apera TDS meter above; it covers your PPM reading too.

I personally use a dedicated conductivity-only meter, but Amazon doesn’t carry one like mine — so this combo unit is the practical pick for confirming purity, and it does more in one tool.

pH & ORP Meters

Round out your testing with pH (acidity/alkalinity) and ORP (oxidation-reduction potential). Together with PPM and conductivity, these are the four readings that fully characterize your water — and the basis for RBTI body-chemistry testing below.

Further Learning: RBTI

Reams Biological Theory of Ionization (RBTI)

Want to understand how your body actually processes minerals and water at a deeper level? RBTI teaches you how to monitor your body chemistry through simple urine and saliva testing — pH, conductivity (Siemens/Mohs), sugar levels, and more. This is the framework that explains why pure water with bioavailable minerals is superior to mineral-laden tap water.

Katja Gwynn’s presentation from ESTC 2021 is an excellent introduction to RBTI principles and practical testing.
